I plan to use this location to post a variety of documents that I would like to make available to my students and the general public, though the general public will certainly have very little use for them.

Handout - Negative Marking

Here is a discussion of negative marking that I have made available to my students. Each year as AP exams approach, ponderous numbers of students demonstrate a tenacious misconception about the effects of negative marking on exams. Many students have the notion that the grading system of the AP exam (or any similar assessment in which negative marking is employed) penalizes guessing and that one should not answer a question unless they are certain of the answer. On the contrary, they certainly are not penalized for guessing and neither does it give them an unfair advantage. Because they sense the relevance to their own pursuits, students are receptive to the mathematics in this document and it can be a great approach to ideas like test validity, probability, binomial random variables, expected value, and risk assessment.

Wall Decoration - Greek Alphabet

This is the 24-page Greek alphabet that I have on the wall in my classroom. The large letters are finely outlined to save toner, but the letters should be colored in with markers or they will not be visible from across the room.
